They rose to fame when their music was featured on the popular indie film, Garden State and since then, they have retained prominence on the music stage, with many people scrambling to buy The Shins tickets. They have a subtle, unspoken talent that easily echoes through their thoughtful lyrics and carefully orchestrated tunes. They have had many people singing along to their hit song, “New Slang.” Their sound is infectious and is easy to sing along to. It has the capabilities to make you laugh and cry all at once and before you know it, you will be clamoring to get their new CD and will be bargaining for a chance to see them live at their next concert. The Shins are an indie rock group that often infiltrates elements of folk and alternative country. When people flocked out to the theatres to see Zach Braff’s independent film, “Garden State” they were immediately taken with the sounds of The Shins. People were wondering who this bright young new band was that was taking over the radio stations and giving them a new group to obsess about. Most all of the songs used in the film were in fact from their first album called “Oh, Inverted World,” that was released in 2001. Their next album, “Chutes Too Narrow” followed closely in 2003 and fans of indie music across the country were thrilled to hear that their new favorite band was expanding their repertoire. This second album featured more multi-layered lyrical inventions and a musical approach that explored new genres. Theirs was a sound that could not be copied and that reached a whole new status when it came to an innovative new sound.
Their third album, called “Wincing the Night Away,” was released on January 23, 2007 and it debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. They have played at many different venues throughout the nation and always the crowds are nearly sold out. They are not a hug pop or rock band and they certainly don’t act like it. They are mellow, just like their music, so get out there and get a pair of The Shins tickets and enjoy their next show.
