What does it mean in Japan when a man sends another man orchids?
Is this normal or traditional behavior, say for a professional to do?
Flowers (orchids or other flashy/expensive flowers) are mostly sent as a congratulations. It can be for opening a new business, graduation, the first day of a performance, exhibition, etc…It’s a way of saying you’re happy for their accomplishment. It also shows the recipient’s status since the flowers come with the sender’s name attached for everyone to see. This way, other people can know how important this person is by seeing his “connections”
